What to expect at National Trails Day 2024

April 17, 2024
National Trails Day is our biggest event of the year–it’s part trail work, part party, and a whole lotta trail love. The day’s jam-packed with fun, but it can be a lot to digest. Read on for a peek at the NTD schedule.
9:00 a.m. Meet your trail work group and kick off the day

Head on over to your trail work site and get to know your group for the day. Expect about 30 volunteers total. You’ll enjoy coffee and snacks, then get to know your Hype Captain and Site Captain for the day. They’ll guide you through the trail work tasks and help explain some of the theory behind the work you’ll complete.

Sites will have a variety of tasks available for volunteers to complete. Some may include light tasks like brushing and drain clearing, and others a bit of more intensive work like rock armorning or berm repair.

Please keep in mind that each site has a difficultly level assigned to it– you don’t want to be signed up for a challenging site if you’re looking to complete light trail work activities.

Make sure to bring comfortable footwear with closed toes. You’ll be on your feet for multiple hours, and want to make sure you have the energy to dance at the after-party!

1:00 p.m. Wrap up trail work for the day

At around 1 p.m., you’ll wrap up work for the day and put away all your tools. You’ll likely be hungry–we recommend eating a quick snack before heading to the after-party. With so many attendees, the food line may be a little long. Gotta avoid getting hangry!

Once everything’s put away at the project site, you’ll receive your drink and meal ticket from your Hype Captain and be turned loose to head to the after-party. DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKETS. You’ll need them to enjoy the catering at the after-party.

We recommend changing your clothes between trail work and our post-dig party. Get comfy and shed layers that may have brushed up against poison oak, because you’ll want to enjoy as much of our after-party as possible!

2:00 p.m. After-party begins at Woodhouse

Jet on over to Woodhouse Brewing & Blending for a post-dig party like no other. Meet other volunteers and have fun while enjoying free drinks from Woodhouse, free food from Sampa Brazilian Kitchen, and live music.

Once everyone’s got a full belly, we’ll kick off our volunteer raffle filled with dozens of outdoor goodies from our generous sponsors.

5:00 p.m. That’s all, folks!

Time to head home and rest well knowing that you just spent a day helping millions of people have a great time on local trails.
