Events and Marketing Coordinator

Job Summary

Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBOSC) is a rapidly-growing non-profit organization driven by passionate volunteers and augmented by high-caliber professional staff. We are an organization of mountain bikers for mountain bikers. We foster a positive and pro-active culture at the intersection of recreation, stewardship, and community. We are expanding our professional staff to satisfy the ever-growing demand for what we do: to promote and expand legitimate mountain bike access in Santa Cruz County.

We are seeking an experienced Events and Marketing Coordinator to engage and grow our community and membership. This includes planning MBOSC events such as the Old Cabin Classic, MBOSC Super Swap, General Meetings, Dig Days, Volunteer and Member Appreciation Events as well as managing MBOSC communications via social media, the MBOSC website and email. The ideal person for this role will effectively balance collaborative and independent work styles, have an energetic and can-do attitude, and be a passionate spokesperson for the organization.

Time Commitment: Full Time. Flexible schedule, requires evening and weekend work.

Salary: Based on Experience. Plus vacation/sick leave and health insurance stipend.


Event Strategy and Implementation (40%)

  • Manage production of ongoing MBoSC events including the Old Cabin Classic, MBoSC Super Swap, General Meetings, Dig Days, Volunteer and Member Appreciation Events
  • Manage MBoSC presence at other community events
  • Review and adapt event timelines and complete tasks on schedule
  • Meet event sponsorship goals and build sponsor relationships
  • Manage and stay within prescribed event budget
  • Recruit and manage volunteers to assist with each event
  • Facilitate other organizations participation in MBoSC events and operations
  • Manage and build relationships with partner organizations involved in each event
  • Propose ideas to improve efficiency and event quality
  • Propose ideas for new events to grow and foster the MBoSC bike community
  • Ensure compliance with insurance, legal, health, and safety obligations
  • Proactively handle challenges and troubleshoot problems
  • Conduct and document pre- and post-event evaluations and report on outcomes
  • Document event procedures

Marketing Communications: Print, Digital, Public Relations (40%)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skill
  • Consistently create, schedule and distribute content via social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter,Instagram, etc.)
  • Manage MBoSC email communications, newsletter and mailing lists
  • Expand MBoSC reach by growing mailing lists
  • Manage MBoSC member database
  • Work with partners to share MBoSC messaging
  • Develop and implement marketing plans and schedules for MBoSC events and campaigns
  • Generate and coordinate content for MBoSC events with the goal of increasing registration and attendance.
  • Work with media outlets to promote and expand enthusiasm for mountain biking in Santa Cruz County.
  • Coordinate the efforts of staff, volunteers and partners via social media to cross-promote events and initiatives.
  • Manage social media obligations to partners and corporate partners
  • Develop social media guidelines for staff
  • Implement a social advertising strategy and measure results to determine best practices
  • Assist with managing website content and coordinating content submissions
  • Manage photographers and photo database
  • Coordinate special digital media projects
  • Coordinate sponsorship for events and general sponsorship
  • Manage sponsor relations and fulfillment of sponsorship deliverables

  • Creative and strategic thinker
  • Excellent time management, organizational and written and oral communication skills
  • Experience managing social media in a professional setting
  • Experience working with a team and coordinating between several departments
  • Familiarity with media management tools and social listening tools
  • Familiarity with bicycle industry, media and a passion for mountain biking
  • Experience with content management systems preferred
  • Impressive portfolio of previously managed events
  • Experience with volunteer coordination
  • Experience with event planning (preferably cycling events)
  • Sales skills and ability to build productive business relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Experience using Adobe creative suite or equivalent
  • Experience with Google Drive and Google Calendar

  • A measurable increase in followers, engagement and social circulation rates
  • Effective implementation of new strategies, including social advertising returns
